Janko Wins Moscow; Moves into Top 10

Tecnifibre TEAM member Janko Tipsarevic (T-Fight 325 & Black Code) has had a career-shaping summer. Highlighted by his first grand slam quarterfinal appearance (U.S. Open), his first semifinal appearance at an ATP 1000 (Canada) and his first career ATP title in Kuala Lumpur, the summer of 2011 positioned Janko at a career high ranking of #13. Heading into the Kremlin Cup, an ATP 250 in Moscow, Janko was playing at the highest level and feeling very confident.

As the tournament’s top seed, he used a tough opening set to find his top form and go on to ultimately win the tournament with relative ease. Janko defeated Igor Kunitsyn 6-7, 6-1, 6-0 in his first match and then defeated 6th seed Dimitry Tursunov 6-4, 6-2. In the semifinals, Tipsarevic continued to roll as he defeated 4th seed Nikolay Davydenko 6-2, 7-5. In the finals, (Janko’s 5th final of the season!) he faced Viktor Troiki, his countryman and friend and prevailed 6-2, 6-4. “‘It was really tough,’ Tipsarevic said. ‘We were both tight. You could cut the tension with a knife. It was like a nightmare to play against your friend,’” (atpworldtour.com).

The Kremlin Cup is Janko’s second career title and his second title in the last 2 months. Janko moved up to #10 in the world with the victory and earned himself $132,000 and 250 points. Congratulations Janko! For more on Janko’s Victory, check out our international blog.
